Jazz Returns to the Redlands Symphony!

For many years, the Redlands Symphony featured a jazz concert in each of its seasons. This year, we’re bringing back the tradition, combined with our popular holiday concert!

You’re going to love hearing big band jazz arrangements of all your favorite Christmas carols and other holiday tunes. Vocalist Alexis Morrast will be bringing her powerful voice, accompanied by a band of fantastic musicians led by Marshall Hawkins and Greg Robbins.

Jazz vocalist Alexis Morrast has been heard on stages ranging from the Kennedy Center to Lincoln Center, as well as in countries around the world. Since taking home the top honors on Fox TV’s Showtime at the Apollo, she’s performed with Michael Feinstein, Christine Ebersole, and numerous other amazing musicians.

Bassist and Bandleader Marshall Hawkins

Bandleader and bassist Marshall Hawkins has played with a who's who of great jazz names. He's laid down the bassline for Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Shirley Horn… the list goes on! He also founded the jazz program at Idyllwild Arts Academy, where he's mentored countless young musicians who've gone on to become contemporary jazz greats.

After years of successful tours and performances — including his own quintet — Marshall continued his commitment to teaching.

In 2002, he organized the Seahawk Modern Jazz Orchestra (MOJO) to offer education programs to elementary and secondary schools. His efforts have encouraged a new generation of Jazz enthusiasts and artists. MOJO lets students play with incredible musicians and leading guest artists.

We're genuinely excited to introduce such a respected and talented artist at our Holiday Concert.

Rounding out our concert's special guests, is Idyllwild Arts Academy's conductor, Greg Robbins. Greg has been a guest at Redlands Symphony in the past and is well versed in Jazz and Classical music. His formal training comes from Yale and Manhattan Schools of Music. Since 2011 he has lead orchestras and performances across the country — with wide acclaim from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and The New Yorker.

Together, Greg will join Marshall in conducting a special evening, only in Redlands.

We Look Forward to Seeing You at Memorial Chapel
