MAESTRO RANSOM WILSON JOINS THE FACULTY OF 2017 REDLANDS SYMPHONY SUMMER MUSIC ACADEMY
Special Session for Parents with Children Studying or Planning to Study Music

REDLANDS, CA -- The Redlands Symphony has announced that Maestro Ransom Wilson will be among the instructors teaching youngsters who attend this summer’s Redlands Symphony Summer Music Academy.

The Academy runs from July 17-28 and is open to young people ages 8-14, whether they are just beginning in music or have already played an instrument. Academy classes run daily from 8 AM until 4 PM. This year, the Academy will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Redlands. There is a registration fee. Scholarships are available.

“We’re very excited that Maestro Wilson – a world class flute player and conductor – will be among the instructors teaching at this year’s Summer Music Academy,” said Paul Ideker, Redlands Symphony’s CEO. “This will be an incredible opportunity for these young musical artists to meet and learn from one of the world’s finest musicians who is also a respected instructor at Yale.” Maestro Wilson will be offering a conducting workshop as well as sharing stories from his storied career as a musician. Maestro Wilson will be in Redlands to prepare for his conducting premiere at the Redlands Bowl on August 1st, conducting the Redlands Symphony performing the Brandenburg Concertos.

Academy classes are taught by trained music instructors through the Symphony’s partnership with the La Sierra University’s Department of Music. The program also includes master classes taught by professional musicians drawn from the Redlands Symphony. This year, the Academy will offer a special ukulele class and a workshop for parents who have children who either are interested in music or seem to be curious about playing an instrument. There will also be classes about musical history, a choral class, performance opportunities and a wide variety of instruments to explore – everything from strings, winds, and brass to guitars. The Academy session concludes with a concert that includes all of the students, performing for family and friends.

“We are especially excited to be offering this seminar for parents who have kids who are or soon will be involved in music,” Ideker explained, “We get lots of calls from parents who aren’t sure how to best support and encourage their young musicians and this session will address those questions. Everyone who attends will leave with a handbook written especially for parents.”
