PIANIST ROBERTA RUST PERFORMS MOZART’S PIANO CONCERTO NO. 23 IN A MAJOR IN REDLANDS SYMPHONY’S SEASON FINALE ON SATURDAY, APRIL 11, 2015

Two Works by Beethoven Complete the Program; Jon Robertson Conducts

REDLANDS, CA -- The Redlands Symphony will end its 65th anniversary season with a concert featuring works by Ludwig van BEETHOVEN and Wolfgang Amadeus MOZART on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at 8 PM in the University of Redlands Memorial Chapel. Jon Robertson will conduct. Noted pianist Roberta Rust will perform MOZART’S Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major. Doors open at 7 PM. Maestro Robertson will discuss the program in a pre-concert talk that beings at 7:15 PM. Single tickets for the concert start at $15 and can be purchased at the door on the night of the performance.

The complete program for the April concert includes the Coriolan Overture by Ludwig van BEETHOVEN, MOZART’S Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major, K. 488 performed by Dr. Rust, and Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major, op. 55 Eroica, also by BEETHOVEN.

“Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major Eroica is a monumental piece of music and a fitting conclusion to what has been one of our greatest seasons ever at Redlands Symphony,” noted Robertson. “This is a program of musical power and might. It’s one that will grab our audience from the first note and lead them on a musical adventure with the musicians and me.”

Roberta Rust has performed to critical acclaim around the globe since her debut as soloist with the Houston Symphony at age sixteen and as recitalist at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. The New York Times hailed her as “a powerhouse of a pianist – one who combines an almost frightening fervor and intensity with impeccable technique and Spartan control.” Rust, who was born in Texas, studied at the Peabody Conservatory, graduated summa cum laude from the University of Texas at Austin, and received performer’s certificates in piano and German Lieder from the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. She earned her master’s degree at the Manhattan School of Music and her doctorate at the University of Miami. Her teachers included Ivan Davis, Artur Balsam, John Perry, and Phillip Evans, and master class studies were with Gary Graffman, Leon Fleisher, and Carlo Zecchi.

The sponsor for the April concert is Majestic Realty. Sponsors of the 2014-15 season are Ann and Vaughn Bryan. The Redlands Symphony is a professional, independent nonprofit orchestra.
