About the Episode
Three of our favorite composers have sent musical postcards from sunny Spain! The sensuous rhythms and passionate melodies of Spanish music have long sparked musicians' imaginations. On this concert, two Frenchmen and a Russian bring the joyful tunes of Iberia to your home.
Bizet's Carmen is one of the most beloved operas of all time. You're sure to recognize the tunes from this story of a young factory worker who falls in love with a celebrity bull-fighter. Don't be afraid to sing along! Then, Rimsky-Korsakov and Ravel serve as our tour guides to the rustic charm of life in the Spanish countryside... including the most popular take on a folk dance ever composed: Ravel's hypnotic Bolero.
Performance Program:
- Rimsky-Korsakov: Capriccio espagnol
- Bizet: Suite #1 from Carmen
- Ravel: Rapsodie espagnole
- Ravel: Bolero
