October 13, 2012 at 08:00pm • at Memorial Chapel

Why You'll Love This Concert

Join us in welcoming the Redlands Symphony’s new Concertmaster, Jeanne Skrocki, as she makes her RSO solo debut in Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, backed by the orchestra’s string section. This all-strings evening continues with Tchaikovsky’s Serenade, one of the most enduring of all string orchestra works.

Of the many composers who helped to bring the Italian Baroque style to its zenith at the beginning of the 18th century, Antonio Vivaldi stands out as perhaps the most creative. Notes

Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings in C Major was written with an ear towards one of his idols, a certain 18th century composer by the name of Mozart. The title and structure of the piece are taken from the serenades of the latter, though this is certainly Tchaikovsky's own particularly 19th century rendering of these older ideas. The work was completed in 1880 and premiered in St. Petersburg in 1881.

My first concert since Covid hit and it couldn't have been a better choice. Beethoven's 5th, the final movement, is like hearing the universe sing. Wilson and musicians play with magic. Thank you so much.
