The Two Sides of Mozart

8:00pm at Memorial Chapel

The Redlands Symphony season finale features two faces of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. His elegant, often wistful Clarinet Concerto (performed by Kathryn Nevin) serves as a contrast to the majestic intensity and drama of his magnum opus for choir and orchestra, the Requiem. Over 150 singers will join the orchestra to bring Mozart’s final masterpiece to life.

Fathers and Sons

Wolfgang and Leopold, Johann Sebastian and Carl Phillip Emmanuel… the Mozart and the Bach families had more than a single composer. This concert highlights these family ties and also features the RSO's incomparable principal horn, Laura Brenes, performing the horn concerto of Franz Strauss (Richard’s father, of course).

Co Nguyen conducts two major works from the core of 19th century Romantic canon on a concert that also includes the University of Redlands Student Concerto Competition winner. Brahms’ Tragic Overture begins the evening, which continues as pianist Anthony Ribaya joins the orchestra to present Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 2. Our night concludes with one of the greatest, most emotionally raw symphonies ever composed, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, Pathétique.

Masters of Music

Renowned Broadway and Hollywood actor John Rubinstein (Wicked, Hello I Must Be Going) joins Maestro Robertson to share A Soldier’s Tale, Igor Stravinsky’s brilliant retelling of a classic Russian folk tale. The evening also features Mendelssohn’s popular second piano trio and La Revue de Cuisine, the score to Bohuslav Martinů’s ballet about the scandalous liaisons that occur between your kitchen utensils when your back is turned.

The Elegance and Power of Strings

Join us in welcoming the Redlands Symphony’s new Concertmaster, Jeanne Skrocki, as she makes her RSO solo debut in Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, backed by the orchestra’s string section. This all-strings evening continues with Tchaikovsky’s Serenade, one of the most enduring of all string orchestra works.

The Redlands Symphony’s exciting 2012–2013 season begins with the exceptional Anastasiya Timofeeva performing Tchaikovsky’s first piano concerto, a tour-de-force work of striking power and memorable lyricism. Paired with Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra, this opening evening is sure to amaze and inspire.
