Beethoven: Three Great Works

Jeanne Skrocki is Artist in Residence at the University of Redlands and Concertmaster of the Redlands Symphony Orchestra. She has established herself locally and nationally as an outstanding teacher and performer and will made her solo debut with the Redlands Symphony last fall playing Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. Ms. Skrocki continues the legacy of the legendary Jascha Heifetz, with whom she studied at the University of Southern California, and joined the faculty of the Jascha Heifetz Symposium at Connecticut College in June 2013. She is a dedicated mentor to young musicians, using encouraging and effective teaching methods to motivate students to excel and accomplish their career goals.

A native of Los Angeles, Ms. Skrocki began her musical training with her mother, Bonnie Bell, and then studied with Manuel Compinsky, a student of Eugène Ysaÿe and violinist of the internationally acclaimed Compinsky Trio. At seventeen, Jeanne was awarded a full scholarship to study with the legendary Jascha Heifetz in his world renowned master classes at the University of Southern California. Ms. Skrocki made her solo debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the age of fourteen and, in addition to her subsequent solo engagements, was the recipient of many prestigious awards and first place honors.

In addition to her faculty position at the University of Redlands, Ms. Skrocki is the Assistant Concertmaster of the Pacific Symphony in Orange County, California, under Music Director Carl St. Clair, and was Concertmaster of the Opera Pacific orchestra for 12 years under the leadership of Maestro John DeMain. Ms. Skrocki has also served as Concertmaster of the Pacific Symphony, American Ballet Theater, Zachary National Opera Auditions orchestra, Redlands Symphony Orchestra, and San Bernardino Symphony. Jeanne is a member of the Los Angeles-based Angeli Ensemble, an elite chamber orchestra comprised of some of Los Angeles’ finest musicians, working closely with cellist Lynn Harrell. Their debut recording, “The Known Unknowns,” was released in 2011. She has been a regular participant at the La Jolla Summerfest, performing with Cho-Liang Lin and other international and local soloists since 2008.

An accomplished chamber musician, Ms. Skrocki is a member of the California Quartet, a string quartet that performs regularly on their own Connections Chamber Music Series in southern California with resident composer Matthew Tommasini. The quartet has held residencies with composers William Bolcom, Michael Daugherty, Paul Chihara, Chinary Ung, Larry Groupe, and Bruce Broughton. Jeanne was a founding member of Les Amis Musicalles, a flute, violin, and viola trio. Winners of the National Flute Association national chamber music competition, their recording, Beyond Beethoven; 20th Century Chamber Music, received outstanding reviews worldwide in its 2006 debut. The trio was dedicated to commissioning new repertoire for their unique instrumentation, including works by Bruce Broughton, Arni Egilsson, James Self, and James Hopkins. In another favorite genre, Ms. Skrocki also collaborates with jazz great Peter Sprague in the Peter Sprague String Consort, a classical string quartet combined with jazz trio. Their debut recording, The Wild Blue was released in spring 2010 and a second CD will be released in fall of 2012.

Ms. Skrocki’s extensive recording career includes symphonic music, chamber music, and major Hollywood motion picture projects. As a recording musician, Jeanne has recorded with the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, Angeli Ensemble, Les Amis Musicalles, the Peter Sprague String Consort, with University of Redlands faculty members, and on hundreds of major motion picture soundtracks. Motion picture highlights include working with Itzhak Perlman and Yo-Yo Ma on John Williams’ score for the movie Memoirs of a Geisha, with Hilary Hahn on James Newton Howard’s score for The Village, and Joshua Bell for the Angels and Demons soundtrack. In 2008, she was the Associate Concertmaster for composer John Williams on the much-anticipated Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull soundtrack. Ms. Skrocki has appeared on television in the Grammy Awards, the Emmy Awards, and the Jay Leno Show.

Ms. Skrocki is passionate about educating and working with young musicians and has been on the faculty of the Redlands Community School of Music’s Summer Music Workshop since 2001. This past summer she conducted the Preparatory Orchestra, coordinated the Chamber Music groups, and gave violin master classes. She has taught courses on Film Music, Careers in Music, Instrument Making, and Ancient Greek Music, to name a few. Jeanne also dedicates a great deal of time to educating the public about the benefits of music in our culture and the advancement of classical music in our communities. To this end, she is a frequent speaker, lecturer, and presenter at events and venues throughout the Southern California area.

Ms. Skrocki has a Bachelors Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
