Raul Valdez is a graduate student at the University of Redlands earning his M.M. in Vocal Performance. He graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a B.M. in Vocal Performance in 2017. He performed with the El Paso Opera from 2011 to 2017 and participated in their Young Artist Program from 2012 to 2015. Productions include La Cenerentola, Carmen, Tosca, La bohème, Acis and Galatea, How Green Was My Valley, The Barber of Seville, and Le Nozze di Figaro with El Paso Opera. He has performed with Opera UTEP in their productions of Fledermaus & Friends as Falke, Speed Dating Tonight! as Quinn the Bartender, The Magic Flute as Papageno, and in Sweeney Todd as Judge Turpin. He was a member of the University Chorale at the University of Texas at El Paso for four years, in which he performed “Votre Toast” with the Chorale at El Paso Opera’s Encores & Overtures Annual Gala. He also performed the role of Sonny in the UTEP Dinner Theater’s production of In the Heights. He is a member of the University of Redlands Opera, the Inland Master Chorale, and a scholarship singer at the First United Methodist Church in Redlands. He has also performed as Bobby in Mahagonny-Songspiel by Kurt Weill and Aeaneas in Dido & Aeneas by Henry Purcell with the University of Redlands Opera. This summer, he performed with the Redlands Theatre Festival as Anthony in Sweeney Todd and Chorus in The Pajama Game. He also performed with the Pacific Opera Project in their production of Carmen in September and looks forward to performing with them in the future. In 2019, he will be performing the title role in Idomeneo with the University of Redlands Opera and an Opera Gala with the University of Redlands Orchestra.
