Harpist Mary Dropkin received her Bachelor of Music degree in Harp Performance from the University of Southern California, where she also did graduate work. Her principal instructors include Dorothy Remsen and Susann McDonald.
She is currently the principal harpist in the Redlands Symphony Orchestra, the Riverside County Philharmonic, the San Bernardino Symhony and the Desert Symphony; she is also a top-call sub for Pacific Symphony for both the principal and second harp positions. Mary is an active chamber musician, often performing with other RSO principal players: Sara Andon, Kay Nevin, Kira Blumberg, and Kyle Champion. She is also the director of the Inland Harp Ensemble; the adult division has 11 members and performs at nursing and convalescent homes, while the young adult division gives an annual recital, usually on the University of Redlands campus.
Mary is Adjunct Associate Professor of Harp at the University of Redlands and is also on the music faculty at Pomona College and Cal State San Bernardino. She and John Gann live in Claremont, where she also has an extensive teaching studio. She has two great sons, a wonderful daughter-in-law and three adorable grandchildren, Mason (5), Brielle (2) and Cash (4).
