In the mood for a thought provoking and intriguing night of music?
How about coming to an orchestra concert with no violins? Challenge your concept of sound and orchestral music on March 6th with our
Brahms Serenade performance.
It's a real cello-bration.
The first half of the concert is entirely dedicated to the cello. We open with a minimalist, contemporary piece by visionary Steve Reich called Cello Counterpoint, which phases a small orchestra of cellos in and out
of sync with each other for a very cool and unique experience. Then, we're off to Buenos Aires compliments of composer Heitor Villa-Lobos
and his Bachianas brasileiras No. 1, a tropical study in Brazilian folk tunes. After intermission, the violas, basses, and winds join the cellos for a performance of Johannes Brahms' Serenade No. 2, which is a wooden, earthy, deep piece of music like you've never heard before.
